Magnificent Daum ‘mini-coupelle’ of the series Fleur de Cactus, made in turquoise glass paste. Marked on the base with an inscription that reads ‘Daum France’
Daum is a glass studio based in Nancy, France, founded in 1878 by Jean Dau. In 1906, Daum revived the ‘pâte de verre’ (glass paste), an ancient Egyptian method of glass casting. Currently, Daum is known for being the only commercial glass manufacturer that uses the ‘pâte de verre’ (glass paste) process for artistic glass sculptures, a technique in which crushed glass is packed in a refractory mould and then fused into an oven. The combination of this technique with the careful designs and the wide colour palette of the Daum works turn each piece produced in its workshops into a unique object, which fascinates collectors around the world.
This piece, a good example of the above, is in excellent condition (however, to assess its condition yourself, look closely at the photographs, they are part of the description of the lot). It can be used for a variety of purposes, decorative and functional.
It will be carefully packaged.
