Piaggio ACMA Vespa TAP 150cc - 1957
Single-cylinder 2 stroke air cooled.
In the fifties, the French Ministry of Defense commissioned to Piaggio, in France (A.C.M.A.), the construction of the first Vespa used for military purposes, produced in 600 units from 1956 to 1959 in two camouflage colors, green and sand.
Supplied to the Foreign Legion and the body of the Paratroopers, the Vespa T.A.P. could be parachuted and was equipped with 1 cannon (recoil-less 75mm, produced in the U.S. and used by all the troops of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), 6 ammunition, 2 canisters for fuel and a small cart.
Despite the weight of 115 kg, the Vespa is still easy to use and could reach the speed of 66 km/h doing about 200 km with a full tank.
The engine is 150cc, and has the same features of the Vespa VL3.
The chassis is reinforced by a tube which, surrounding the front shield, creates a circular ring in the back, thus acting as a bumper and also as a support to the side ammunition holders. The handlebar, painted, has a large and adjustable headlight, protected by a stone guard grid, with the switch of the headlights also protected on the upper part.
