Carchi bowl with geometric design - 9th-13th century. Carchi culture refers to the culture of people who once lived in communities in the present province of Carchi, in northern Ecuador, from 800 to 1400 AD. Their pottery reached important artistic development, being recognizable by its forms and decoration, with distinctive black painting on dark red pottery with rectilinear geometric designs. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner to a German gallery. Previously owned by a private collector H.O. (Badden-Württemberg; 1970). Attached export certificate from Germany.
