Subject: 月下吹笛 playing the flute under the moon Period: summer of 1930(庚午夏日means "the summer of 1930") Artist: Kenzan Mizuta水田硯山(1902-1988), Japanese painter. His real name is Yoshiro. Born into a precious metals dealer in Boro-cho (Chuo Ward), Osaka. He learns about his older brother, Mizuta Takebai, who is a painter. He learned Chinese painting from Minami Gaku, and moved to Kyoto in 1918 to study Nanga. Later, he was active mainly at Nippon Nangain, and was selected three times at the Teiten. He paints landscape paintings influenced by Post-Impressionism. After the war, he exhibited commissioned works mainly at the Nitten Exhibition. He is a director and auditor of Nippon Nangain. With signed and inscribed tomobako.
