New silver pendant enclosing an authentic ancient coin. The sterling silver frame (marked 925) is custom-made to the coin and if desired can be removed without damaging the coin. Coin: Æ Antoninianus of Emperor Probus, struck 279 AD, Siscia. Obverse: Radiate, helmeted and cuirassed bust. Reverse: Sol in galloping quadriga holding whip (mounted to front) Diameter: ± 23,5 mm VF/EF quality, wearable (new silver frame with bail). Coin with signs of wear consistent with age and use. Under his reign the Roman armies successfully defeated the Germanic invaders in Gaul and put down a rebellion in Britain. He encouraged the planting of vineyards in Gaul, Spain, and Britain and was evidently killed by troops who resented his discipline and being set to agricultural work. Sol Invictus: the Roman cult of Sol existed in Rome since the early Republic, but was highly promoted by Elagabalus and Aurelian. In 274 AD, December 25 Aurelian established the cult of Sol Invictus as an official religion. Quadriga: Chariot drawn by four horses. This iconic image is a symbol of power, triumph and a reminder of Rome's military prowess.
