【Product details】
Experience the allure of Japanese artistry with this Showa Era hand-painted silk scroll, entitled “Takasago,” by the acclaimed artist Furuya Iccho (1890-1966). This artwork is a heartfelt homage to the themes of enduring marital love and the quest for longevity. It beautifully portrays an elderly couple standing beneath a pine tree with the setting sun in the distance, invoking the essence of the traditional Noh theatre piece “Takasago.” This piece celebrates the legendary couple from Takasago and Sumiyoshi, known as the "Aioi Pine," representing marital harmony and eternal companionship.
Furuya Iccho, a Kyoto native and graduate of the Kyoto Fine Arts School, was a student of Yamamoto Shunkyo and distinguished himself in the Japanese art world with honors such as the Imperial Exhibition awards and exemption from Bunten exhibition inspections.
The artwork exhibits a serene aesthetic with delicate brushwork and is in reasonable condition, showing some age-related light stains across the painting and noticeable marks on the mounting fabric. The scroll ends are crafted from resin, adding a touch of elegance and durability to the piece. This scroll comes carefully preserved in its original double wooden box, signifying its authenticity and cultural significance. Please inspect the provided photographs for a full assessment of the scroll's condition.
