This bed linen is the beginning of the Art Nouveau movement in France.
it is so typical of a total change from the classical designs as we know it.
The initials P.A. are magnificently embroidered onto the linen in very high relief
and my belief is that the letters were purchased in the haberdashery shop
where at the time they had the entire alphabet available;
The letters would be provisionally and simply sewn onto the bedlinen
and then the laborious labour would begin to sew over the initials to
create the effect. They really stand out.
The 2 lanes on the letter A; and the bow with "pea embroidery" on
the right are the beginnings of the Art Nouveau period.
The edgings have a pleasant open thread work border.
