The painting was found in East Frisia in northwest Germany, a region which has strong ties with the Netherlands, so it was probably painted in the Netherlands or in Germany around the year 1700. It is painted in oil on a wooden board, which has been framed and fastened onto another, larger board. There are some horizontal lines in the picture, where the wooden baord has begun to crack.
