The Sikhote-Alin meteorite is a large iron meteorite of the hexahedrite group and belonging to the chemical group IIAB. The meteorite fell at 10:38 on February 12, 1947 in the western part of the Sikhote Alin volcanic mountain system, in the Ussuri taiga. Its fall to Earth was witnessed by a large number of eyewitnesses. As it moves through the Earth's atmosphere, it shatters into thousands of pieces and falls as an iron meteor shower. Produces the most abundant meteor shower, far exceeding all known meteor streams. The meteorite is classified as a coarse-grained octahedrite. This structure is characterized by a fine interweaving of kamasite and tenite bands, which cross each other at different angles and form the so-called "victim figures". Kamasite is an alloy of iron and 4-7% nickel, and tenite is an alloy of iron and between 27 and 65% nickel. This is one of the must-have meteorites for any home collection, the meteorite comes with a certificate of authenticity.
