Additionally, Kamakura-bori, with its exceptional carvings and multiple layers of lacquer, is highly durable and long-lasting. Lacquerware believed to be from the Kamakura period was excavated from the old Kamakura city area in almost perfect condition. According to experts, this preservation can be attributed to the preservative effects of lacquer-derived components and the process of layering lacquer, which creates strength, allowing the lacquerware to remain intact underground for many years without decay.
