It earned the designation of a traditional craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry on February 17, 1975. Over its 400-year history, Takaoka's foundry artisans have faithfully preserved the skillful wax mold casting method, allowing them to delicately and dynamically reproduce motifs, transforming simple objects into magnificent works of art.
