A particularity of this Châteauneuf du Pape, therefore, is its blend, which includes an overwhelming proportion of the Grenache grape variety - around 98%. Favoring low yields (barely 18 hectoliters per hectare), the winemaker allows an exceptional terroir to express itself: the sandy soil does not contain the famous bed of pebbles typical of the appellation (Louis Reynaud would have removed them... by hand!) . Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, and aging (20 months) takes place in old oak barrels. Château Rayas reaches peaks of smoothness in great vintages. Extraordinary aromas of cherry and raspberry characterize this wine of unparalleled finesse and power in the appellation. Note the production of a second wine, Château Pignan, of impeccable quality.
