Seljuk / Byzantine Bronze Oil Lamp with Decorative Finial Circa 12th century AD This lovely bronze oil lamp showcases a rounded central compartment elevated on a trumpet foot. The lamp includes a channelled nozzle with an ivy leaf-shaped spout, lugs on the sides and from the back of the body emerges a large loop topped with a decorative finial. The Seljuks, a medieval Turkic dynasty, played a significant role in shaping the history of the Islamic world. Emerging in the 11th century AD, the Seljuks originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The dynasty began with Tughril Beg, establishing its dominion across a vast territory, including parts of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
