Ancient Egyptian Wax Ushabti Circa 715-300 BC This interesting ushabti, crafted in wax, exhibits a characteristic mummiform shape, with a columnar structure tapering towards the base. The hands are positioned on the chest. The head is adorned with a tripartite wig, and the figure wears a false beard, symbolizing divine status. The ushabtis' inclusion in tombs was associated with the concept of the "Field of Reeds," an idealized afterlife in Egyptian mythology. The figurines were expected to cultivate the land, ensuring a bountiful harvest for the deceased. The ushabtis' mummiform representation symbolized their role as substitutes for the deceased, ready to fulfil their duties in the eternal realm.
