In this lot we offer 2 vintage sosaku Kokeshi By Watanabe Masao (1917-2007)
Born in Fukushima, Watanabe-san studied under Traditional Yajirou Master Sato, Tatsuo of Miyagi Prefecture. After relocation to America, Masao Watanabe, , was incarcerated at the Puyallup Assembly center in Washington, and transferred to the Minidoka internment camp, Idaho during World War II. Arguably, the most popular and prolific of the 20th/c Sosaku Kokeshi artists, he began his craft in the early 1950s.
Heights: 25cm and 30cm
Please always take a close look to the pictures to determine the state of the kokeshi. All are kokeshi are vintage and could Contain stain or scratches. 1 doll as a few tin cracks and a big one, the other doll has a scratch under the eyes and some laquer that you see on the head.
