It’s my voice, a way to distinguish a repeated product without putting my name on it. It lets a viewer reanalyze or question the fact. Is a rug a rug? Is a bag a sculpture? It allows me to rewire and remessage, and consistently find “me” in my work." Virgil Abloh (1980 - 2021) Born in Rockford, Illinois (U.S.A.) in 1980, Virgil Abloh was an artist, architect, and fashion designer. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he obtained a master’s degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. It was at the Illinois Institute of Technology where Abloh was introduced to a curriculum established by Mies van der Rohe, formed from the notions of Bauhaus, that taught him to combine the fields of art, craft and design. These theories, merged with contemporary culture, make up Abloh’s inter-disciplinary practice today. Also he was an entrepreneur and DJ. He was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection since March 2018. Abloh was also the chief executive officer of the Milan-based label Off-White, a fashion house he founded in 2012.
