The Promised Journey to Spain Ikko Narahara Clevis./2020/Japanese,English/264 × 192 × 24 mm Kazutaka Narahara (1931-2020) pioneered a new photographic expression in postwar Japan while contemplating what the conditions of human life were. In the 1960s, in order to reexamine his way of life and photographic expression, Narahara left Japan to spend time in Europe. He was deeply fascinated by Spain. The overwhelmingly dynamic "Great Afternoons in Spain" was shot while resonating with the people who rejoiced at festivals, risked their lives for bullfights, and lived through the turbulent times. This book features 120 carefully selected black-and-white photographs from the series, and also highlights the collaboration with his close friend, graphic designer Mitsuo Katsui. Fifteen masterpieces from "Europe: Still Time," taken around the same time, are also included to trace the young photographer's "journey" for the first time in half a century.
