The medal “For the conquest of Chechnya and Dagestan” was intended to award individuals involved in the final stage of the war in Chechnya and Dagestan . Established on July 15 ( 27 ), 1860 , by decree of Emperor Alexander II . The decree was given to the Minister of War
Award procedure:
The medal was awarded to the following persons :
All ranks of the army, including generals, officers, lower ranks, both combatant and non-combatant, who participated in hostilities in Chechnya and Dagestan from 1857 to 1859;
Local police troops, various volunteers who participated in the battles;
Officials, priests and doctors who were with the troops during hostilities and performed their duties during military expeditions.
Description of the medal

This is a silver medal, diameter 28 mm. The front side depicts the ornate monogram of Alexander II , crowned with a large imperial crown . On the reverse side along the edge there is an inscription in a circle: “FOR THE CONQUEST OF CHECHNYA AND DAGESTAN.” Below, between the beginning and end of the inscription, there is a small rosette. In the center, in four lines, the years of hostilities that ended the war in Chechen and Dagestan are indicated horizontally : “in 1857, 1858 and 1859.”
A total of 145,115 medals were minted at the St. Petersburg Mint . In addition, there are versions of the medal made in private workshops. They may differ significantly from the medals issued at the mint in image detail and size. There are known variants made not only in silver, but also in bronze with subsequent silvering
