Rauna Leira You might have never heard of the Rauna Leira speakers. They are the transmission line speakers which are made of concrete, and designed by the Swedish record producer Opus 3 (with respect to the deceased Bo Hansson). The Rauna Leira speakers look like large periscopes and they are a typical example of timeless design where form and function have fused together. The whole idea behind the design was to create a speaker which had an absolute minimum of vibration/distortion. The idea was that concrete was superior to wood to achieve this ideal. Bo Hansson was of the view that the worst thing to do with 6 boards is to build a speaker. The version I have is the Rauna Leira. This is an “easy” speaker, because it shows very little variations in the impedance. In practice, this means that they are not very sensitive to the type of amplifier you choose to power them. So concerning the listening impression of the Rauna Leira II, it should be said that they are pretty sensitive to placement. So with minimal displacements, you can achieve everything between horrible and fantastic sound. It is ideal to place them 50 to 100 cm from the wall. The bigger the distance to the wall, the bigger the risk of a thin-sounding bass. The middle area is very clean, present, three dimensional, detailed and dynamic. Human voices sound very natural. The high is also very clean, airy, detailed and has a natural warmth. The speaker set really is something for those among us who listen to classical music, jazz, blues, folk, singer songwriter music, female/male voices, etc. They sound musical, warm, natural and with an enormous presentation. Possible grids are available to be mounted over the drivers. I think they are nicer without, and the tweeter is already protected by its own grid.
