【Description】

This is a woodblock print titled “Gan Kaeru” (Wild Geese Returning) by the Japanese artist Iwao Akiyama.

This work is printed on thick, richly textured Japanese paper, giving it the warmth of handcraft and the raw material quality characteristic of Akiyama’s simple yet powerful naive-art style.

At the top of the composition, a small flock of wild geese is depicted flying through the sky, while a single owl is expressed in a bold black silhouette at the center.

The natural fibres contained in the paper can be seen throughout the work, further enhancing the texture of handmade washi paper and the handmade character of the piece.

Two small dots of red pigment are applied to the owl’s eyes, creating a striking accent within the otherwise monochrome composition.

Within the quiet composition, the presence of the owl and the flight of the wild geese create a poetic atmosphere and lingering impression characteristic of Iwao Akiyama’s work. This piece is especially recommended for collectors of Japanese woodblock prints, owl-themed artworks, and folk-inspired artistic expression.

The work is numbered 10/100 and hand-signed in pencil by the artist. His red seal is also stamped beside the signature.
