【Description】
This is an exceptional Japanese Suzuribako (writing box) created by the renowned Wajima lacquer artist Asami Shomatsu, representing the highest tradition of Japanese lacquer craftsmanship.
The lid is adorned with an exquisite Maki-e composition depicting a pair of quails beneath gracefully cascading wisteria blossoms. The meticulous rendering of the quails’ plumage and the subtle tonal gradation of the wisteria flowers demonstrate an outstanding level of technical mastery and artistic refinement.
Executed in Wajima-nuri, Japan’s most prestigious lacquerware tradition, this piece benefits from the renowned “Jinoko” undercoating process, celebrated for its exceptional durability, depth, and longevity.
