Description
This ceramic tea bowl embodies the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, the Japanese aesthetic philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection, transience, and natural aging.
The softly muted beige glaze with subtle grey tones creates a calm, earthy presence. Hand-painted circular brush motifs flow freely across the interior and exterior, revealing the spontaneity of the maker’s gesture rather than rigid symmetry.
Two small rim chips have been repaired using a kintsugi-style lacquer technique. Rather than concealing damage, the repairs highlight it — transforming fragility into beauty. The golden accents gently draw the eye, telling a story of use, breakage, and renewal. This bowl is not pristine — it is honest.
Firing marks, natural pinholes, glaze irregularities, and slight asymmetry reflect traditional handmade kiln production. These are not flaws but expressions of individuality, shaped by fire and time.
The unglazed foot shows natural wear and patina consistent with age.
Unsigned and without kiln mark, the bowl speaks through form, texture, and quiet presence rather than attribution.
