Authentic 20th Century Moroccan Berber Koummya Dagger – Engraved Brass

Description:
An original, mid-20th century Koummya (Koummiya) dagger, the traditional curved sidearm of the Berber (Amazigh) and Arab peoples of Morocco. This piece is a genuine example of North African ethnographic craftsmanship, likely originating from the Souss-Massa or Anti-Atlas region.


Detailed Features:
Blade: A classic curved, double-edged blade. The blade shows an authentic dark patina and minor surface oxidation (pitting).
Hilt: The handle is carved from a single piece of dark hardwood (likely walnut), featuring the characteristic flared pommel typical of the Atlas region. It is decorated with hand-engraved brass and silver-plated metal fittings with traditional geometric motifs.
Scabbard: The scabbard is made of brass with remains of its original silver-coloured plating. It is extensively decorated with hand-chiselled floral and foliate scrolls (arabesque). The scabbard is fitted with its original wooden liner (insert) and two sturdy suspension rings (lugs) used for attaching a traditional cord.

Condition Report:
The dagger is in original, untouched vintage condition:
Blade: Shows natural aging with surface rust and pitting, consistent with its 50-70 years of history.
Fittings: The silver-coloured plating has partially worn away due to years of handling, revealing the warm, golden brass patina underneath

Structure: The hilt and scabbard are solid, with no modern repairs or replacements.
