卖家的描述
Item Description:
Japanese Lacquered Wood Chest with Three Drawers — Carved Peony and Scale Pattern
This striking small chest (kodansu) is a fine example of traditional Japanese lacquerwork featuring bold relief carving across its entire surface.
The exterior is covered in a dramatic combination of deep black lacquer over red lacquer (kuronuri over benigaki), with an all-over carved scale pattern (uroko-mon) that creates a richly textured, almost reptilian background rippling across every panel.
The front face bears a large, deeply carved peony blossom (botan) rendered with great vitality — its layered petals, pointed leaves, and cross-hatched center unfurl dynamically across all three drawer fronts, creating a unified composition that spans the full height of the piece.
The three drawers slide smoothly on unfinished natural wood interiors, lined with pale kiri (paulownia) wood.
The drawer pulls are simple horizontal metal bar handles with a hand-forged, textured appearance.
The top surface features a plain panel framed within the carved border, finished in a dark, smooth lacquer, while the base is unfinished natural wood.
The overall form is compact and rectilinear with slightly softened corners, giving the piece a bold yet refined presence.
Size
Height: 25.5 cm
Width: 30.5 cm
Depth: 21.5 cm
Weight: 2,249 g
Condition
The piece shows age-appropriate wear consistent with its vintage character, including minor lacquer chipping at one corner of the top edge and some paint loss on the metal drawer pulls; the carved surface, peony decoration, and drawer mechanisms are all intact and fully functional.
NOITICE:
The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation.
It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping.
I appreciate your cooperation.
