卖家的描述

This lot contains:

V Reis - 1799 - Maria I
500 Reis - 1898 - D.Carlos and D. Amelia - 400 Years Discovery of India (Prata)
X Reis - 1754 - José I
V Reis - 1874 - Luís I

1. V Reis | 1799 | D. Maria I (The Pious)
This coin was minted during the final year of the 18th century, a time of massive global upheaval. While Napoleon was rising in France, Maria I was ruling a global empire from Lisbon.
This is "Large Format" copper history. These coins are known for their weight and the ornate Baroque style of the Portuguese coat of arms. By 1799, Maria’s son (the future D. João VI) was actually acting as Prince Regent, but the coins still bore her name, making this a pivotal "Regency era" piece.
Historical Context: 1799 was a bridge between the old world and the new. This coin likely circulated during the lead-up to the Peninsular War and the eventual flight of the Portuguese Court to Brazil.

2. 500 Reis | 1898 | D. Carlos I & D. Amélia

The Showstopper. This silver (Prata) coin celebrates the 400th Anniversary of Vasco da Gama’s discovery of the sea route to India.
The Appeal: It is one of the most beautiful commemorative coins in Portuguese history. It features the dual portraits of the King and Queen, which is quite rare. The reverse depicts the iconic Cross of the Order of Christ.

3. X Reis (10 Reis) | 1754 | D. José I (The Reformer)

This coin was minted just one year before the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755. It represents the height of the Portuguese Empire's wealth under the administration of the Marquis of Pombal.
It’s a thick, "chunky" piece of history. The 1750s coinage is highly sought after because so much was lost or melted following the earthquake.

4. V Reis (5 Reis) | 1874 | D. Luís I

A decade earlier than your first coin, this 1874 issue comes from a period of relative stability and growth in Portugal.
The "V" (Roman numeral 5) gives it a classic, regal aesthetic that looks great in a display case. It’s the "little brother" to the larger copper denominations.
