美索不达米亚?(请忽略)Antique Jewish Yemenite Silver Ring with Pink Agate
Yemen, Late 19th – Early 20th Century
A beautiful and authentic handcrafted Jewish Yemenite ring featuring a cylindrical bezel set with a polished pink agate cabochon and richly decorated openwork shoulders.
This ring is a fine example of traditional Yemenite silversmithing — a craft practiced for centuries by Jewish artisans in Yemen, renowned for their intricate wirework, granulation, and bold architectural ring forms.
The elevated bezel, rope-twist borders, applied wire decoration and flanking granulated rosettes are characteristic elements of Yemenite Jewish jewelry from the late Ottoman period.
Cultural & Historical Context
Jewish silversmiths in Yemen were among the most skilled metalworkers of the Arabian Peninsula. Due to limited access to newly mined silver, craftsmen often melted down circulating silver coins — including Ottoman issues to create jewelry. As a result, silver purity commonly varies and may range below modern sterling standards.
Such rings were traditionally worn by Jewish women and sometimes formed part of bridal or festive adornment.
Material
Silver alloy (low-grade silver / billon type alloy typical of regional coin-silver jewelry)
Estimated silver content likely between 50–70% (not hallmarked; typical for period and region)
Stone: Natural pink agate cabochon
Note: Silver content not professionally tested; assessment based on visual characteristics and regional craftsmanship traditions.
Measurements
Weight: 8.3 g
Inner diameter: 18.2 – 19.1 mm (slightly oval from hand fabrication)
Ring Size Equivalents:
EU: 57 – 60
US: 8 – 9
Condition
Very good antique condition.
Stone intact with natural surface wear
Original handmade openwork decoration preserved
Minor age-related wear and surface patina
No visible modern repairs
Craftsmanship Details
Hand-formed cylindrical bezel
Twisted wire borders
Applied granulated side elements
Traditional Yemenite openwork band
Hammer-finished interior
The construction is fully consistent with hand-fabricated Jewish Yemenite jewelry of the late 19th / early 20th century.
Collector’s Note
Authentic Jewish Yemenite silver jewelry is increasingly sought after for its distinctive craftsmanship and cultural significance. Unlike mass-produced Middle Eastern jewelry, these rings display clear evidence of hand fabrication and traditional silversmith techniques passed down through generations of Jewish artisans.
A wearable piece of Jewish heritage — decorative, historical, and culturally meaningful.
