Original Zippo U.S.A. lighter, customised for The Yak Kit, an Italian knitwear brand founded in 1996 by Paolo Borgomanero and Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, a prominent Italian entrepreneur also known for his leadership role at Ferrari during the same period.
The brand was created with the aim of producing garments made from yak fibre, a rare and valuable natural material considered a warmer and more durable alternative to cashmere, entirely made in Italy. In 2007, the trademark licence was acquired by Maglificio Morgano, which oversaw its relaunch and distribution.
The lighter features the engraving “THE YAK KIT” on the front and a stylised yak silhouette on the back.
It is not part of Zippo’s standard catalogue, but an original promotional customisation, likely produced for corporate communication or internal brand use. The production quantity is not documented, making this piece uncommon on the collectors’ market.

DATING
