Banko Ware(萬古焼) Stone Bubble Glaze Plum Design Vase – Hand-built by Yamada Tōka(山田東華) (No reserve price)
◎ This item will be shipped from Japan.
This is a flower vase made of Banko ware, a traditional craft from Yokkaichi City in Mie Prefecture, Japan. It was hand-built using the hand-coiling technique (手捻り) without a potter’s wheel by the traditional craftsman Yamada Tōka.
The surface of the vase is finished with a black stone bubble glaze, creating a powerful lava-like texture with a rough earthen surface and bubble-like patterns. The result is a chic and dignified appearance with a strong presence.
【About Yamada Tōka(山田東華)

【About Banko Ware】
The origins of Banko ware date back to the mid-Edo period when Nunami Rōzan, a wealthy merchant from Mie Prefecture, opened a kiln in Obuke, Asahi Town.
Rōzan stamped his works with the marks “Banko” or “Banko Fueki”, meaning eternally unchanged, expressing his wish that his creations would endure forever. This is said to be the origin of the name Banko ware.
In 1979, Banko ware was officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan.
Today there are more than 100 kilns producing Banko ware, and its market has expanded internationally, attracting growing attention around the world.
