Joan Baez – Diamonds & Rust (Quadraphonic 8-Track Tape)
General Information
* Artist: Joan Baez
* Album: Diamonds & Rust
* Format: Quadraphonic 8-Track Cartridge (Q8)
* Release Year: 1975
* Catalog Number: 8Q-54527
* Label: A&M Records
Description
This is a discrete 4-channel Quadraphonic 8-track tape, a specialized high-fidelity format from the mid-1970s. The cartridge is housed in its original A&M Quadraphonic blue slipcase. Unlike standard stereo 8-tracks, this Q8 release contains four independent audio channels designed to be played on Quadraphonic equipment for a full surround sound experience. The tape was manufactured and printed in the USA.
Condition
Factory Sealed. The item is in its original vintage shrink wrap. The seal is intact, though there is some expected light scuffing on the plastic and minor pinhole breathers/shelf wear typical for a 50-year-old sealed item. The blue slipcase colors remain bright and sharp.
Notes for Collectors
Diamonds & Rust is arguably Joan Baez's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful album of the 1970s. The title track is a legendary folk-rock masterpiece, famously detailing her complex relationship with Bob Dylan.
From a technical standpoint, this Quadraphonic edition is a first pressing and a significant rarity. Quadraphonic 8-tracks (Q8) were produced in significantly lower quantities than their stereo counterparts due to the high cost of the playback hardware at the time. Finding a copy that has remained sealed since 1975 is a rare opportunity for both Joan Baez completists and specialized 8-track audiophiles. This release represents the peak of 1970s experimental surround sound technology.
