The Melong is one of the most powerful instruments in the Bön shamanic tradition and in Dzogchen Buddhism. It is the symbol of pure consciousness, a perfect surface that reflects truth without ever being sullied by it.

The Shield of the Shamans
Its ritual function is to be a sentinel. Its polished surface is a trap for malevolent spirits and demons. Drawn by their own reflection, they are captured and dissolved. The Melong is an exorcism weapon, a guardian that purifies space and protects its wearer from any occult attack.

The Seals of Mastery
The mirror’s power is sealed and directed by the sacred diagrams engraved on it. At the top, two stags face each other on either side of the Wheel of Dharma. It is the symbol of the Deer Park at Sarnath, the holy place where the Buddha gave his very first teaching. It is the seal marking this object as an instrument of pure original wisdom.
