卖家的描述
Marlik Culture Grey-Ware Ribbed Jug (Ancient Near East) – Iron Age I
Culture/Period: Ancient Near East, Marlik/Amlash Culture
Chronology: Iron Age I, c. 1200 – 1000 B.C.
Material: Burnished Grey Terracotta
Dimensions: Height 13.1 cm; External mouth diameter 8.5 cm.
Description:
An elegant ancient Near Eastern ribbed jug, characteristic of the Marlik/Amlash cultural sphere during the early Iron Age. Crafted from distinctive burnished grey terracotta, the vessel features a globular body decorated with pronounced vertical ribbing, a cylindrical neck with a flared rim, and a sturdy strap handle featuring a small, stylized thumb-rest at the base.
The vertical fluting on this ceramic piece was intentionally designed by the ancient potter to emulate the repoussé techniques found on contemporary, high-status metal vessels of the region. A highly representative piece of ancient Near Eastern craftsmanship.
Condition Report:
Intact and structurally sound, with no modern restorations. It presents only minor, superficial chips on the rim and wear consistent with age and ancient use, which do not detract from the piece's aesthetic appeal. Beautiful earthly deposits on the surface.
Provenance Statement:
The piece comes from an old European collection formed in the 1970s.
Sent with invoice and certificate of authenticity.
