Topoke Prestige Knife DR Congo
Late 19th century, around 1880
Carved wooden prestige knife of elongated form, attributed to the Topoke people of the Congo Basin.
The tapering body is decorated with rows of copper studs forming geometric patterns, and surmounted by a stylized pommel.
The blade is integrated into the sculptural form.
Such objects were used as status symbols or ceremonial items, reflecting rank and social identity within Central African societies.
H : 40,5 cm
A beautiful patina developed over years of use.
