Eric Wittenberns was born in 1951 in Ampenam (Indonesia) and passed away in Utrecht in 2021.
After secondary school, from 1969 to 1974, he attended the Artibus Academy, based in Utrecht. There, he was taught by, among others, graphic artist Gérard van Rooy. He developed into an artist trained in many disciplines. He was a painter and graphic artist, but also created sculptures. From 1979 onwards, typography began to play an important role. In that year, together with Hans Uijtdewilligen, he started the Salix Alba press, a small-scale printing and publishing house that produced typographically designed publications. In the 1980s, typographic material formed an essential part of his work. He experimented not only in printed form but also in his paintings. He found inspiration in the work of the Groningen printer H.N. Werkman.
