A Gentleman’s Curio Collection – Gold filled Algha Spectacles, Qing Porcelain & Sterling Silver napkin ring and other items.
A curated lot featuring personal effects and scholar's objects from the 19th and early 20th centuries. This collection offers a rare opportunity to acquire high-quality survivors from the Victorian, Edwardian, and Republic eras, perfect for the discerning collector of small antiques.
The Highlights:
Antique Optica: Three pairs of cased spectacles, including two exceptional Algha pairs featuring Gold Filled Frames. These are preserved in their original period cases, representing the pinnacle of 19th-century vision-wear; the two gold filled pairs are from the Algha Works (London) 10k Gold-Filled frames. Algha is world-renowned for their artisan 'rolled gold' technique, famously favoured by John Lennon, representing a classic piece of British optical heritage.
Chinese Scholar's Object: A fine Qing Dynasty / Republic Era (c. 1850-1912) ceramic pill bottle. Standing at 4.7cm, this miniature masterpiece features delicate period decoration and represents the exquisite craftsmanship of the late Imperial period.
Silver & Sheffield Steel: A heavy Solid Sterling Silver napkin holder by Wm J. Todd (hallmarked 1935).
A classic engine turned folding penknife by the renowned Atkinson Brothers of Sheffield.
Fraternal History: An intricate Masonic Pendant, a perfect addition for collectors of secret society regalia and fraternal memorabilia.
Condition:
Items vary from good to excellent antique condition. The silver napkin holder bears crisp hallmarks for 1935, and the ceramic retains its vibrant glaze.
