Trained at the Berlin Academy, he was a prominent German painter and illustrator, born in Berlin, known primarily for his genre scenes, historical interiors, and paintings of military subjects.

Schöbel specialized in scenes from the life of Frederick the Great, but with the outbreak of the First World War, he painted numerous patriotic scenes of the battles on the Western Front. He is also known as an illustrator of children's books. In 1904, he received the gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition.

The execution of the drawing is impeccable in form, content, and composition. Classic scene from the Enlightenment in an atmosphere with a heroic and romantic tone characteristic of the 19th century, but bearing witness to the bitterness and stoic resignation of death in combat ...

The artwork is very well preserved despite its age. With some minor cut in the drawing and some damp stain, as shown in the photographs.
Framed with glass and a burgundy mat. Size: 51 x 70.5 cm.
