Original Italian industrial safety sign reading “Pericolo d’Incendio” (Fire Hazard), dating from the late 1960s to early 1970s.
This striking piece features a bold and highly recognizable graphic: a burning match igniting flames beneath a stylized tree. The tree depicted closely resembles a Mediterranean maritime pine (Pinus pinaster), a species commonly found in coastal areas of Italy, particularly in Tuscany and Lazio. This detail reinforces the sign’s intended use in fire-prone natural environments such as coastal pine forests and rural landscapes.
The visual language reflects the transitional period before standardized European safety pictograms were introduced.
Manufactured in painted metal (industrial screen-printed finish), not a modern reproduction. The sign retains its authentic surface with visible signs of age, including scratches, wear and oxidation on the reverse, all consistent with decades of real use.
