Chimú artisans were skilled in feather art, wood carving, mat making and working with shells and semiprecious stones. From close relations with their Lambayeque neighbors, whom they would eventually incorporate into their empire, the goldsmiths perfected the techniques to produce copper, silver and gold prestige goods, such as cups, ear flares or masks, used especially in ceremonial ceremonies by the nobles.
