细节
Origin: Thailand
Period: 19th Century (Rattanakosin/Bangkok Period)
Material: Bronze with traces of original black lacquer, red cinnabar, and gilding.
Subject: Buddha in the 'Naga Prok' (protected by the Naga) attitude.
Physical Details
• Height: 22 cm
• Width: 11 cm
• Weight: 856 grams
• Construction: Authentic two-part construction (The Buddha figure is detachable from the Naga throne).
状况
This piece is a wonderful study in traditional Thai bronze casting, showing clear signs of its age and history:
• Casting Characteristics: The underside contains the original fired clay casting core with visible silica crystals. A notable casting error (void) is visible on the lower front of the naga base, where the bronze failed to fill the mold completely—a common occurrence in 19th-century regional workshops.
• Repairs: There appears to be an old professional repair running across the middle of the Naga piece (the protective hood/background), likely stabilizing a stress fracture or old break.
• Surface: The surface retains a rich, "crusty" patina with remnants of black lacquer and red cinnabar (often used as a primer for gold leaf), which has worn away naturally over time.
