卖家的描述
A Spanish tortoiseshell and brass inlaid, ormolu mounted, ebony and kingwood display cabinet / showcase (Spanish: escaparate). Spain, most probably Madrid, mid to late 17th century. Together with an associated ebonised stand of later date. Extremely rare item, virtually impossible to find, only one I found in Musum in Madrid!
Dimensions:
Total: height - 130 cm; width - 74,5 cm; depth - 36,2 cm.
Showcase: height - 84,7 cm; width - 73,5 cm; depth - 35,8 cm.
Stand: height - 55 cm; width - 74,5 cm; depth - 36,2 cm.
The cabinet of rectangular shape, front almost coverd by single door with large glass, wooden frame veneered with tortoiseshell and brass inlaid ebony, gilt bronze (ormolu) mounted, fixed to the case with iron hinges nailed to the door and sides of the case, lock on the left. Sides of the front of the case ebony-veneered with geometrical inlays, same as on doors. Shaped base and cornice are made most probably of solid kingwood / rosewood. Three glasses on each side of the case, each framed with same decor as doors. Interior with two glass-shelves, floor and ceiling in geometrical inlays.
An associated ebonised stand with spiral turned legs of the later date, most probably from 19th century, but possible also early 20th century.
References (last pictures):
- a similar display cabinet in Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas, Madrid, Spain - dated 1650-1700;
- Spanish cabinets with exactly same decor, all from 17th century
Condition report:
- legs removed (missing) to fit the stand;
- electrical lamp added in 2nd half of the 20th century, not tested;
- few damages to the wood, to include missing venner in two lower corners and trace of old restoration, shown on pictures;
- lock original. working. Key of the later date;
- some regular age- and use-related wear, minor marks and scratches;
- glass on front and sides with lot of irregularities, no idea if original, but for sure not modern;
- glass shelves modern, originals most probably were made of wood.
