卖家的描述
original Soviet bust of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, signed “Volkov 1980 г.” on the reverse side of the base.
The sculpture was produced during the late Soviet period, when Lenin’s image remained a central ideological symbol in schools, factories, партийных учреждениях and государственных организациях. Such busts functioned not merely as decorative objects, but as visual elements of state ideology during the Cold War era.
The model is characterized by a строгая портретная трактовка и лаконичная форма, typical of official Soviet sculptural production of the late 1970s–early 1980s.
The author's signature is a cast signature in the mold, meaning the model was originally made according to Volkov's original.
Material and Technique
Material: cast metal (likely silumin or similar Soviet alloy)
Surface: bronze-toned patination
The signature “Волков 1980 г.” is visible on the back of the base.
Height: approx. 21 cm
Condition:
- Good vintage condition.
- Natural patina consistent with age.
- No visible restorations.
Historical Context:
During the late USSR period, Lenin iconography was omnipresent in public institutions. Busts of this type were produced in large quantities for official spaces, yet metal cast examples are less common than plaster versions.
This piece reflects the aesthetics and ideological climate of the late Cold War period, when sculptural portraiture continued to serve as a vehicle of state representation and historical narrative.
Collectible Significance:
- Original Soviet period sculpture
- Signed and dated 1980
- Metal casting (not plaster)
