This elegant cylindrical flower vase is a fine example of the Mashiko folk-craft tradition, crafted by Hashimoto Shuichi — a distinguished potter born and based in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture. The vessel features a boldly hand-painted glaze decoration in grey-green (seiji-toned) and cream-white, applied in sweeping horizontal and geometric brush strokes that evoke a quiet, abstract landscape. The layered glazing technique reveals the warm reddish-brown stoneware body through intentional gaps and thinning, creating a dynamic interplay of texture and color highly characteristic of Mashiko's mingei (folk craft) aesthetic.
