卖家的描述
Tang Dynasty sancai-glazed ceramic teacup with a glaze, with a phoenix head and relief decoration.
Phoenix-head handle vase and relief decoration.
Rare ewer with phoenix-head decoration in sancai and blue glaze,
The pear-shaped body is adorned on each face with a medallion. The neck is topped by a phoenix head holding a pearl in its beak, beneath the oval opening at the top of the head.
The vase is glazed in blue and amber, partly covered by a mixture of amber, green and cream enamels.
This phoenix-head ewer bears testament to exceptional craftsmanship and is among the rarest of its kind.
The use of cobalt blue, a highly prized material imported from Central Asia during the Tang dynasty, reflects the wealth and status of its owner.
The decoration of this ewer is inspired by Sasanian metal flasks introduced into China by merchants and diplomats from Central Asia.
Although many similar ewers are preserved in major museums and institutions worldwide, very few are blue-glazed like this one.
Tang Dynasty, 618 / 907 A.D.
Dimensions: Height 16.7 cm - Width 8.6 cm
Good condition - restoration at the neck, nose, handle and base.
Provenance: United Kingdom, S.M.L. Gallery.
