" Antoine D'Agata documents what he lives at the moment he lives it, that is, all over the world. He puts on paper ordinary or extreme experiences. The shots are due to the randomness of encounters, situations. The choices, as far as possible, are unconscious. But the obsessions remain the same: the road, fear, darkness, sexual act. The brutality of form, the exaggeration of vision force us, more than the images that claim to document, to be interested in the reality of what we see. The viewer can then exist, no longer in the position of voyeur or consumer, but share an extreme experience, question the state of the world and of himself. " Ice is conceived as an intimate diary from 1999 to today, between clichés, drug use and sexual acts.
Antoine d’Agata was born in 1961 in Marseille. At 17, he was drawn to punk and anarchist movements. He began frequenting brothels and regularly experimenting with various artificials paradises. In 1983, he left France and traveled for the next ten years. In 1990, he attended photography courses at ICP in New York, where he met Larry Clark and Nan Goldin. From 1991 to 1992, he was an intern at the New York office of Magnum. Between 1999 and 2004, he was represented by Agence Vu and . He was awarded the prestigious Niépce Prize in 2001.
