Item Description
This elegant Japanese bamboo flower basket (hanakago) exemplifies the refined aesthetics of traditional Japanese craft. Featuring a gracefully bulbous body woven in an open diamond (hishi) lattice pattern with warm honey-toned madake bamboo, the piece transitions to an intricate overlapping arch design at the shoulder, crowned by a beautifully braided round handle. The two-toned nature of the basket — lighter, finely split bamboo strips contrasting with the darker, russet-hued handle and rim — lends the piece a sophisticated visual rhythm. The woven base reveals a meticulous radial spoke construction, and the basket retains its original cylindrical black lacquered inner tube (suiban) for holding water and flower stems. Designed for use in ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) or as a decorative display object, this basket carries the timeless spirit of Japanese aesthetic sensibility (wabi-sabi) and would serve as a distinguished accent piece in any interior. A wonderful example of Japanese bamboo craft (takezaiku) from the Showa era.
