Description:
This work is titled "Kubosannoisu" (Kubo's Chair). It is dedicated to Sadajiro Kubo, an art critic and collector whom the artist regarded as a mentor. The artwork features a characteristic rainbow spectrum. The artist uses silkscreen techniques to achieve high saturation and transparency.
Artist Profile:
Ay-O was born in Ibaraki Prefecture in 1931. He graduated from the Department of Art, Tokyo Education University in 1954 and moved to New York in 1958. His career includes exhibitions at Gordons Fifth Avenue Gallery (NY) in 1963 and the first Rainbow Happening at Carnegie Recital Hall (NY) in 1964. Other notable events include "Rainbow Laundry" at the World Trade Center (NY) in 1977, the "Rainbow Eiffel Tower Event" in Paris in 1987, and a solo exhibition at Museum Fridericianum (Germany) in 1994.
