MiLo – “Shimmer State”
A work by Amsterdam-based artist MiLo (1976).
This painting presents a solitary human figure, emerging through layered, gestural brushwork. Built up in muted tones of black, grey and off-white, the surface carries a dense, weathered skin of material—applied, dragged and partially erased. Subtle gold accents appear throughout, catching the light and creating a shifting, almost shimmering effect.
Rather than a fixed portrait, the figure remains unstable. Its form is suggested through horizontal movements and accumulated marks, as if the image is in the process of forming and dissolving at the same time. This creates a visual tension between presence and disappearance, where the body becomes both structure and interference.
The restrained palette emphasizes the tactile quality of the surface, while the gold tones introduce moments of reflection and depth. Depending on the light and viewing distance, the work shifts between a more figurative reading and a more abstract, atmospheric field.
The composition remains deliberately open, inviting interpretation while maintaining a strong physical presence.
The painting will be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube or box, without frame, and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
NOTE: Shipped directly from Amsterdam NL by the artist.

About the Artist
MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based contemporary artist with a background in photography and visual arts. Over the years, he has developed a distinctive abstract style characterized by layered surfaces, gestural marks and a strong sense of rhythm and structure.
His work has been collected internationally, with original paintings sold across Europe, the United States and Asia. With over 800 works placed in private collections, MiLo has built a consistent and recognizable body of work.
Influenced by action painting and urban textures, his process combines intuitive movement with more controlled interventions. This results in compositions that often evoke fragments of architecture, coded systems and eroded surfaces.
