卖家的描述
一件罕见的 carved stone 手水鉢(手水盆),以鬼怪形象呈现。\n\nThis crouching, muscular demon is shown straining beneath the weight of a rectangular basin, which he supports above his head with one arm. The figure is carved with a vivid, expressive character, featuring a fierce facial expression, pronounced brows, and a compact, powerful body with a rounded belly. The posture and tension in the limbs give the impression of weight and effort.\n\nWe have not encountered another example of this type. The combination of a functional 手水鉢 with such a figural and dynamic subject is highly unusual.\n\nChôzu’bachi are traditional water basins used in Japanese gardens, originally intended for ritual purification. They were used to wash the hands and rinse the mouth before entering sacred spaces such as temples, shrines, or tea gardens. In such contexts they are often referred to as tsukubai 蹲, embodying ideals of humility, purity, and mindful preparation.\n\nDimensions:\nHeight 46.8 cm, Width 36.1, Depth 28.5 cm.\n\nThe age of such a stone item is difficult to determine. We think that this one is carved during the Edo period (1600-1868). \n\nIn very good original condition with minimal traces of age. The stone surface throughout has developed a soft, weathered texture, a good indication of age. Please refer to the photographs for a clear condition reference.\n\nFor shipping, the piece will be securely packed on a wooden pallet.\nWhen shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
