卖家的描述
Maro Tapa Cloth Dance Apron – Asei Village, Sentani (West Papua)
An authentic tapa cloth, locally known as a Maro, originating from Asei (ACEI) village in the Sentani region of West Papua. Maro cloths were traditionally worn as dance aprons during ceremonial performances, where movement, rhythm, and visual symbolism played an essential role in expressing community identity and ancestral connections.
This example was field collected in 1994 and represents a fine piece of Sentani barkcloth tradition. The hand-painted surface displays characteristic motifs, often inspired by the aquatic world of Lake Sentani—fish, water patterns, and stylised ancestral forms—rendered in a balanced and confident composition.
Maro cloths from Asei are particularly valued for their refined aesthetic and strong cultural context. Pieces with documented provenance and early field collection, such as this one, have become increasingly scarce.
An excellent and evocative piece for collectors of Oceanic art, combining visual strength with cultural significance.
