卖家的描述
Item Description
This striking vessel is a Japanese Rantai Shikki, a sophisticated lacquerware technique in which natural bamboo is meticulously woven into a basket form and then coated with layers of urushi lacquer. The result is an open-weave, see-through structure that allows light to pass beautifully through the lattice, creating an interplay of shadow and depth rarely achieved in traditional crafts.
The vessel takes the form of a classic Japanese storage jar (tsubo), featuring a wide, rounded body that tapers to a flat foot ring and opens to a wide mouth framed by a thickened, lacquered rim. Two small woven bamboo ring handles are attached symmetrically at the shoulders — a refined detail that echoes ancient ceramic prototypes used in the tea ceremony.
The entire surface is finished in a rich cinnabar-red and deep black urushi lacquer applied over the woven bamboo ground, producing a dramatic two-tone effect that shifts from crimson to near-black depending on the angle of light. The open hexagonal and diamond weave pattern of the body contrasts beautifully with the densely woven, lacquer-saturated rim and foot band. Included is a separate black lacquered bamboo cylinder (chikutou) designed to hold flower stems, allowing this piece to function as a traditional ikebana flower vase.
This is a refined example of Japanese lacquer craft that bridges the worlds of functional flower arranging and fine decorative art, ideally suited for display in a tokonoma alcove or as a striking accent in any interior.
