In ancient Khmer society daily live was impregnated with Buddhist and Hindu religious practises.
During the 13th century Hinduism was in decline after centuries of dominance and by the 14th century, the royal family's conversion to Theravada Buddhism marked the gradual decline of Hinduism as the state religion. The transition was not a simple replacement, many Hindu rituals, stories, festivals and artistic motives became entwined with Cambodian Buddhism and folk traditions. This syncretic system also influenced daily rituals, and the use of ceremonial objects for liturgy was divers and an important aspect of life.
These bronze utensils were property of tempels and monasteries to perform communal religious gatherings and ceremonies.
These bronze ritual objects, like bowl, trays, candle holders, oil lamps, offering plates, vases, ect represent a specific religious shape, and size with distinguish Khmer features.
